Russ was born May 9, 1939, in Susanville, Calif., to Wiley and Edna (Anderson) Davey. In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by a son, Steven Dale Davey of Etowah, N.C. Russ is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Thelma “Joyce” (Wilson) Davey. He leaves behind son, Daniel “Scott” and his wife, Karen (Elsner) Davey of Edenton, and two grandchildren, Hanna, of Edenton and Drew, of Edenton and San Diego. Russ is also survived by daughter-in-law, Jean (Dozier) Davey of Etowah.
Russ raised his family in Northern Virginia while he served our country as a Latent Fingerprint Specialist for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. His storied career spanned more than three decades where he processed and oversaw the processing of evidence from crime scenes and disaster sites in addition to providing expert testimony in the courtroom. Upon his retirement from the Bureau, Russ continued to share his latent fingerprint knowledge and expertise, first by assisting law enforcement, followed by contract work to help protect our military.
Russ enjoyed travel and fishing. One of his favorite “fishing holes” was the Atlantic Ocean at Avon, N.C., in the Fall, a family tradition for 50 years.
The family would like to thank the doctors and Hospice Team of ECU Health in Edenton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036, with private burial to follow in Lexington, S.C.
