Sandra M. Calhoon

Sandra Benn Calhoon, 84, widow of Jimmy R. Calhoon, of Lexington, passed away on February 14, 2024 in Lexington, SC. Sandra was born in Ocala, Florida on June 2, 1939. She was the daughter of Joseph Mosley of Rome, GA and Anita Goldman Mosley of Ocala, FL. She was raised in Ocala, graduated from Ocala High School, and attended Florida State University. She met her husband Jimmy R. Calhoon at Florida State University and married him on December 20, 1957 when they eloped to Thomasville, Georgia. Sandra moved to different states with her husband as a former FBI agent, and landed in Lexington, SC, raising her two sons.

Sandra enjoyed Edisto beach, cooking, her dogs and horses, painting, collecting jewelry and taking care of her sons, grand-children and great-grandchildren. She loved her morning coffee and all things sweet. Winning real estate awards and donating most of her money to St. Jude’s Hospital, animal shelters, and veterans, she had a heart of gold. Sandra was the quintessential southern lady. She was kind, considerate, generous, loving, strong and accomplished. Her greatest joy came from taking care of those she loved.

Surviving her is her son, Mark Reagan Calhoun (Rebecca) of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Ashley F. Sims, Sandra Lee Calhoon Watson (Alexander) of Lexington, SC, James Reagan Calhoun, Bethan Cade Calhoun of Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren: Aubrey Ferrell, Maisy Sims, Ian Sims, Alexander Watson Jr., Colton Watson, and Brady Watson of Lexington, SC; sister in-laws, Faye Mosley of Ocala, FL, and Janice Berman (Bruce) of Tulsa, OK.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Calhoon; her son, James Kurt Calhoon; her grandson, James Ian Calhoon; her parents, and brothers Billy and Steve Mosley. Sandra will be missed greatly and is now in the arms of our savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held for Sandra at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, with a visitation to follow.
