Sherry loved rocking little babies. Her joy overflowed when she held a little one in her arms. She was an excellent seamstress. Many babies were christened or dedicated in beautifully detailed gowns and outfits with a hidden label “Made with love by Sherry Lynn.” She had a passion for dolls - collected them, made them, repaired them and shared them. She thoroughly enjoyed events and trips as a member of Barnwell Red Hats and loved to dress up in their colors of purple and red - purple was her favorite color.
Sherry worked at the Barnwell County Developmental Center for many years. She served as a Guardian Ad Litem, in prison ministry, as a girl scout leader, volunteer at the Barnwell Senior Center and other roles in her church and community. She daily demonstrated Jesus’s call to love others. Everyone she encountered was her friend and neighbor.
Sherry is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ron Hutchings; her children, Donna (Craig) Berlin, Rob (Gaya) Hutchings, Katie Hutchings and Tom Rhodes; her grandchildren, Michael Brown, Caroline (Kenny) Turner, Jamie (Matt) Folsom, Heather Rhodes, Julia Ann Gregory, Tripp Gregory, Charlie Hutchings, and Liam Berlin; her great-grandchildren, Delilah Turner, David Turner, Portland Rhodes, Harper Rhodes and Addison Folsom; stepmother, Peggy Mathis; brother, Tim Mathis; sister, Marion Mathis; stepsister, Kathy (Johnny) Curry, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held at Victory Fellowship Church, 217 Glassmaster Rd, Lexington, SC on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 2pm. We encourage those attending to wear a bit of purple as we honor the life of Sherry Lynn Hutchings.
