Stephen Lynn Borden

Stephen “Steve” Lynn Borden, 77, of Leesville, South Carolina passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025. He was born on December 29, 1947 in Marysville, Tennessee to the late Vera Laveria Turner Borden and James Bennett Borden.

Steve graduated Strom Thurmond High School in May of 1966 and went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina with a business degree. He was in the Pest Business for most of his life and started The Original Bugman Pest Elimination, Inc. 42 years ago. Earlier in his career, he was also a licensed home builder and built numerous homes in the North Augusta and Belvedere, SC area.

He was a Navy veteran and a member of the SC Pest Control Association. Steve was kindhearted, honest, and spirited. The only thing he loved more than his family was the Northwood Baptist Church, where he was very active in their men’s ministries and activities.

Steve was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his dog. He loved Facebook, living on the lake, boating, sitting on the beach, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed target shooting, collecting guns, and collecting arrowheads.

He will be remembered most for his big heart, his fairness, his joyful outlook, his caring ways, and – at times – his stubborn side. He had a presence that you felt the moment he walked into a room, not just from hearing his voice or smile, but from the way he carried himself. If for some reason you didn’t know who he was, he made sure he proudly introduced himself by his full name as if it were a handshake all on its own. He had a way of making you feel seen, heard, and cared for whether you knew him a long time or just a few minutes. His strength was quiet, but steady. His laughter was a gift, and his love was a constant that will never fade.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Borden; sons, Brad Borden (Tiffany), Ken Poston, and Robert Rice; daughters, Allison Borden, Stephanie Borden (Bert) and Christy Poston; brother, Richard Borden; grandchildren, Christopher Rice, Kara Turner, Brittany Borden, George Poston, Hunter Poston, Justin Borden, Matthew Borden, Haylee Rikard, Lindsey Rikard, Olivia Hall, Lauren Hall, Anderson Smith, and Harper Rice; along with five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Steve was predeceased by his brother, Stanley Dennis Borden and nephew, Dennis Borden.

A visitation for Stephen will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place after the services at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
