
Sylvia Cartin of Lexington, South Carolina, died on June 9, 2023 at the age of 83. Born in Heath Springs, South Carolina on May 27, 1940, she was the third of six children to the late Stanley B. and Edna B. Reeves. She was married to A. C. Cartin, deceased, for 48 years and raised two sons and two daughters. She graduated from Heath Springs High School where she was honored as class Salutatorian in 1958.
She worked her whole life but she enjoyed being a paralegal and a court reporter and most of all, serving as secretary to the Pastor, Rev. Mike Turner, at Lexington Baptist Church.
She was a diehard Clemson fan, loved traveling with her friends, card games, going to the beach, playing golf and softball, teaching Sunday school (27 years), and spending time with her grandchildren.
Sylvia was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, Stanley Jackson “Jack” Reeves, John B. Reeves and his loving wife, Virginia. She is survived by her sons, James Michael Tant and Rev. James D. “Skip” Cartin (Caroline); daughters, Catherine T. Phillips and Jennifer C. Wilson (Jonathan); her sister, Linda Reeves Brinson (David); her brother, Coach Gerald Reeves (Jean); sister-in-law, Wilma Reeves Phillips (Frank) along with seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved hosting for family reunions and will be sorely missed by many.
The family will greet friends in the sanctuary of Lexington Baptist Church, Lexington, SC, on June 13, 2023 at 10:00 AM with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow immediately after the service in a private graveside at Bush River Memorial Gardens.
