Vernetta W. McGrady

She was born in Charleston, S.C. to her late beloved parents, James Walter Wright and Dorothy Pierce Wright.

She was predeceased in life to her husband of 43 years, Harry Mathew McGrady “Shorty”, a.k.a pop; siblings, James Leon Wright, Betty Rosie Sanders and Jimmy Roy Wright; and granddaughter, Laikin Danielle McGrady.

Left to cherish her memories are her beloved son, Stephen Michael McGrady and his wife, Laura; step-son, Sonny McGrady; sister, Kathy Wright Wilson and her husband, Ricky; brother, Jerry Walter Wright; and grandchildren, Justin Jon Michael McGrady and his wife, Heather, Casey McGrady, Kaitlyn McGrady and Connor McGrady; great-grandchildren, Emerson Watts, River McGrady and Rozen McGrady.

She was a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School. She entered into the workforce at 18 for Bell South “AT&T”. She was a selfless woman who contributed to her community in various ways. Always offering to help those around her. She supported the Boys Farm in Newberry and Zoological Foundation locally.

She never met a stranger. Every person in the world, to her, was just a friend she hadn't met yet. She also taught us to do unto others as you would want them to do to you. She loved to sing and enjoyed karaoke to the fullest.

She was a cancer survivor, a wife, mother, sister and friend to us all.

Her Funeral will be celebrated Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow service at Lexington Memorial Cemetery.
