

LEXINGTON – Virginia Taylor Hylton of Lexington passed away Friday, December 22, 2017. She was born on June 10, 1925 to the late F.A. Osteen and Ruby Smith Osteen. Virginia was a dedicated member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Unit 7 of the American Legion. Virginia was an early member of the Tea & Topics Club. She enjoyed playing bridge but gardening was her passion.
Virginia served faithfully on the Lexington Town Council from 1981 to 1998. She envisioned Lexington having a town park for children to play and adults to enjoy concerts and picnics. Her dream became a reality when the town park was established and dedicated in her name, The Virginia Hylton Park in 1993. Virginia received the Order of the Palmetto from Gov. David Beasley in 1998 for her outstanding contributions to the Town of Lexington. She was very active in the town receiving the Tree City USA certification, an award for being a Tree City for five years and a Growth Award, one of only three in the state. Virginia was instrumental in the beautification of the Town of Lexington and passing ordnances for limiting the height of the signs of businesses and the necessity of trees in parking lots within the town.
She is survived by her son, Brian L. Taylor, Sr. of Chimney Rock, NC; daughter Janet L. Taylor of Lexington; granddaughter, Adrienne L. Taylor of Greenville; grandson, Brian L Taylor Jr. of Greenville; great granddaughter Cameron Bolus of Charleston; former husband, Charles W. Hylton. She was predeceased by her first husband Henry F. Taylor, parents and siblings. A memorial service for Virginia will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:00pm with a reception to follow in the church social hall. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 119 N.
