

IRMO – A Celebration of Life Service for Walter L. McLaughlin, 85, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. McLaughlin was born on September 29, 1929 in Chester, PA and was the son of the late Dorothy and Web McLaughlin. With his loved ones surrounding him, Walt passed quietly into eternity on Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Irmo, SC after an extended illness. After serving his country in the Air Force, Walt worked as the Vice President of Fisher Tank Company from 1950 until December 31, 1992. After retiring, Walt spent his time enjoying his hobbies of boating, fishing and going on trips in his RV with his wife of thirty years, Cecile.
Living on to cherish their many memories are his wife, Cecile, and his children, Lee (Donna) McLaughlin, Scott (Cheryl) McLaughlin and twin daughters, Beth Quilallan and Gwen (Wayne) Williams, as well as stepchildren, Beth Turko, Alisa (Kerry) Arms, and Frank Keck. Walt is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mr. McLaughlin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine Powell and son, Bruce Web McLaughlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 140 Stoneridge Dr. Ste. 210, Columbia, SC 29210.
