

Winifred “Freddie” Taylor Clark age 97, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2025 at her home in Austin, Texas. Freddie loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was ready to join her husband in the Lord’s presence. Her most cherished past time in the last year was singing her favorite hymns.
Freddie was born in Lexington, South Carolina on November 11, 1927. She grew up in Lexington and was baptized at Lexington Baptist Church as a young girl. She had four older sisters, Linda, Sarah “Teet”, Mary, Margie, and a younger brother, Emmanuel Jr. “Buddy”. After graduating from Lexington High School, she attended the University of Georgia graduating in 1949. She would be a faithful “Bulldog” all her life, never failing to watch Georgia play football.
Freddie met the love of her life in the fall of 1949, Ralph Thomas “Tom” Clark Jr., when she rented a room from his mother in Toccoa, Georgia. They became engaged in the spring of 1951 and were married at Lexington Baptist Church on August 26, 1951. They were married 69 years until Tom’s passing in October of 2020.
They raised three sons in Texas where Tom worked for the Mobil Oil Company from 1959 to 1986. Freddie taught home economics in high school from 1973 until 1985. Upon retiring, she and Tom took their love of boating and moved to the Florida coastal town of Punta Gorda in 1986. In 1993 they built their dream house on the canals of Punta Gorda Isles where they lived for over 27 years and used it as a base for their many boating trips. After Tom’s passing, Freddie moved to Austin, Texas in 2021 to be near her son Taylor and his wife Gayle.
Freddie’s strong faith in the Lord was lived out daily as an example for her family. Her love for people and vibrant wit were evident throughout her life, even in her last days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, her siblings, and one grandchild, Riley Jane. Freddie is survived by her three sons, Tom (Karen), Taylor (Gayle), and Jim (Julie), 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072.
