Helen Roberta Hann Clevenger Peters, age 100, passed away on March 5, 2020 in Seneca, South Carolina. Helen was born on January 10, 1920 to the late Edward and Margery Hann in Columbus, Ohio. She lived her life taking care of her family, spending time with friends, and sharing her talents with others. She was a lifetime member of Mother’s Club and Craft Club, both of Liberty; Dunlapsville Women’s Club; Sneezer’s Club in Petoskey, Michigan. Helen was born and raised in Columbus until the age of 15. She then moved to Brownsville, Indiana where she attended Brownsville School. She married Harold Clevenger on February 23, 1941, and they began their life together at the Brownsville Methodist Church. She devoted her life being a homemaker and caring for her three children. She and Harold raised their family in Liberty, Indiana. They enjoyed many years in northern Michigan. After retiring, they spent their time in Michigan and Florida while still having a home in Liberty, Indiana. Spending their summers up north and winters down south allowed her to make some of the best lifelong friends, while sharing her favorite places with her family. She was an avid traveler up until her death. She was a wonderful cook and loved learning new things like knitting, painting, ceramics, crafting; all of which she shared with her family and friends. She took great care of her homes, where you could always find her cooking, baking, and caring for her flowers and gardens. She was a longtime member of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. After Harold’s passing in 1986, she married Lee Peters on November 23, 1993, and her travels continued between Michigan and Florida. In 2010, she moved to Clemson Downs in Clemson, South Carolina where she felt right at home, leading a knitting club to make baby hats for local hospitals, playing cards, making new friends, and beating the college kids at her beloved bingo. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Clevenger, Lee Peters, son Ronald Clevenger, two sisters Betty Jane Basil and Mary Jo Howie both of Columbus, Ohio. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Carol (Don) Klein of Central, South Carolina; son Ed (Rachel) Clevenger of Fishers, Indiana; daughter-in-law Cheryl Clevenger of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Andy (Astrid) Clevenger of Gangelt, Germany, Traci (Al) Willimon of Williamston, South Carolina, Rob Clevenger of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kelli (Wade) Thompson of Fishers, Indiana, Jim (Christa) Clevenger of Cincinnati, Ohio, Becky (Josh) Bowen of Fairfield, Ohio, Greg Clevenger of Portland, Oregon, John Clevenger of Fishers, Indiana; Sarah O’Connor of Memphis, Tennessee, and Cameron O’Connor of Fishers, Indiana. She was proud of her 17 great-grandchildren, Leon, Weston, Cole, Lauryn, Bella, Olyvia, Jack, Caroline, Aubree, Landon, Hannah, Margot, Zander, Kendal, Jacob, Nathan and Sophia. Helen will also be forever remembered by her brother-in law Donald Clevenger, sister-in-law Peggy Clevenger, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Receiving of friends and family will be on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 1-3 pm with a service following at 3 pm at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, 312 West Union Street, Liberty, Indiana. Interment will follow in the family plot at Boston Cemetery, Boston, Indiana. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Helen to the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, 4 West Seminary St, Liberty, Indiana 47353.
