Barbara Lea (Barb) Gilmore, 67, of Liberty, MO passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. Barb was born July 11, 1954 to Donald and Esther (Wittig) Fischer, of Liberty, MO. She graduated from Liberty High School and went on to get her bachelor’s degree in Antiquities from Missouri State University in 1976. She met Michael (Mike) Gilmore on an archaeological dig and the couple were married in 1983. The couple have two children Jace and Andie. Barb was a crew leader for archaeological digs in Missouri and Nevada for the Smithsonian Institute, Dept. of Natural Resources, and The Center for Archaeological Research. After the children were born, she devoted her time to raising the kids as well as serving as the local PTA president and with the Missouri PTA as an advocate. She was also the former president of the PEO Chapter IZ and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty. In her free time, Barb enjoyed making design decisions for the family and the cabin by the lake along with laughing and having coffee with her friends.
Barb is survived by her husband of 38 years, her son Jace of Brooklyn, NY, daughter Andie of Springfield, MO, and sister Claudia Bennett of Mountain View, AR. Also surviving are many extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cancer fighting organization in Barb’s name. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date in September. Arrangements are being made through Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home, 119 E. Franklin St., Liberty, MO 64068
