When I think of Grandma, the first memory that will always come to my mind is the ritual my brother, sister and I would partake in every time we left my granparents house. Well past the age that we could fit, as the car pulled away all of us would attempt to squeeze ourselves out of the passenger window and wave goodbye to her until she was completely out of sight. The hardest part of loving someone are those moments when you have to say goodbye to them, but grandma had a way of making everything a little bit better. I spent so much of my childhood around my grandparents that it is impossible to sum up everything her and Grandpa did for me. Grandma was one of the first adults who really listened to what I had to say. 
She was such a kind and funny person to talk to, and really acted as a sounding board for me during my adolescence. Grandma showed me how to treat others with compassion, stand up for myself, and helped me figure out the kind of person that I wanted to grow up to be. The last thing that my grandfather ever said to me before I left his hospital room was, "Do good for others." Part of me suspects that he learned that from the most beautiful woman I've ever known.  Anyone that knew Joan was better for it, and I consider myself blessed to be counted among them.  Thank you for making everything a little bit better Grandma, I look forward to our paths crossing again. Love you. 

I wish I had known Grandma Carpenter better. The first time I met her she was in a nursing home, but she had a big smile on her face and I could tell her life was full of so much love. She had an old Bubba Bear in her room, and it reminded me of my own loving grandparents who gave me that same bear when I was a kid. Those grandparents sadly passed away, but I instantly found a connection when I spoke with her and I saw her as my own grandmother. I heard about her amazing and exciting life from the Goff family, who always happily told stories and reminisced in their fond memories. I think her love of poetry would have brought us close. But now that I know more about her and still continue to learn from her family, I feel like she will have an impact on my life forever.

She is missed by so many. 

I strongly believe my grandma was the greatest grandma to ever live. No disrespect to other Grandmas out there but my Grandma Carpenter set the bar for all past,present and future grandmas. But in all seriousness  Grandma was truly a compassionate and loving human being.  I have many memories from Chiefs games at her house to summer pool parties to Christmas Eve parties ( A tradition my family has continued)  to being babysat during the summer with my siblings.  When I was a kid I would act sick just to be able to go to Grandmas house and spend the day with her, play checkers on her chess board, and go to Antioch Mall and get lunch and walk around.  I loved having conversations with her, she would literally be down to talk about anything, from my personal life, her life stories or even the paranormal.  I always knew I could count on Grandma to give me comforting and wise advice.  She was also one of the funniest people I've known,  from her crazy faces she would do to her fast wit.  Even though she had trouble remembering people the last few years of her life she remained the kind and sweet person I always knew.  Grandma had a huge impact on my life and so did my Grandfather, without them I wouldn't be the person I am today. I love you Grandma, thanks for everything you have done for me and I am grateful to have known you and been your grandson.  I have comfort in knowing your not suffering any more and your with my dad and Grandpa now.  Good luck on your journey, we'll meet again.

Grandma was the kindest, most caring, and most honest person I've ever known. I have so many cherished memories with her that I'm not even sure where to begin. The Christmas eve parties, the pool parties, and the BBQ's are all such wonderful memories that I'll always hold close to my heart, but there are other memories that I also hold near and dear. I remember going antique shopping with her and my mom, babysitting me and my brothers during the summer, making us her special French toast with simple syrup, always listening to my concerns and offering such wise and valuable advice, showing me her favorite poetry, being so funny and silly, and above all being the most loving person I've ever known. I miss you so much grandma, love you forever and ever. I take comfort in knowing that you've been reunited with Grandpa. Rest in peace.

Have lots of memories of the Carpenter house. Playing basketball in the driveway &  playing pool in their basement. Joan always had a smile on her face. I remember all the faces she would make- it cracked me up! Although her soul has been gone for quite some time, her sweet heart will be with me forever.  Toby is saying "finally Joan, we are together again". Lots of love & big hugs to the entire Carpenter family. 

My favorite memory would be rocking on the front porch swing with her when I was iddy bitty. I also remember christmas parties in their basement, bugging my brothers as they played pool. Pool parties, staring up at the stars in their heated pool..hanging out with cousins.
