John “Mark” Howell, 60, of Kansas City passed away while sleeping on May 24, 2017. Mark was born on September 19, 1956, to Dr. John and Doris Howell in Bradenton, Florida. He was a graduate of North Kansas City High School and completed coursework at Maple Woods Community College. Mark’s passions included his family, his wide circle of friends, and music. Mark spent the last years of his life living with and caring for his father until his father’s death in late 2016. Mark’s friendships were one of his treasures – he loved meeting new people and keeping contact with lifelong friends. He valued his friendships! Mark also loved music and the music world. As a member of the Kansas City Vinyl Club, Mark always encouraged others to get involved and share his passion for music. From his early 20’s as a major organizer of the Cornstalk outdoor concerts to his most recent Westport Country Playhouse Reunion Concert, Mark loved organizing events around music. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, John Christian Howell (2016) and Doris Dooley Howell (2013). He is survived by his brother, Michael Christian, nephew, John (Rachel) Howell with children Audrey & Jayce and niece Lauren (Michael) Ginestra. Friends are invited to share in a celebration of Mark’s life at Paul and Jack’s in North Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, June 24, between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for family and friends to gather and share about their times and experiences with Mark. The family wishes to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy and compassion for Mark. He lives on in our hearts and memories.
