Mary Louise Brooks

Mrs. Mary Louise Brooks born February 1, 1926 transitioned to our Heavenly Father Monday, June 13, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. As a native of Liberty, Missouri she was a graduate of Garrison School and a lifelong member of St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1943 Mary was joined in marriage to James Allen Brooks of Liberty, Missouri. Their union of 69 years was blessed with five children. She was preceded in death by daughter Constance Brooks; son Alan E. (Debbie) Brooks; husband, James Allen Brooks; father Elijah Slaughter and parents, Ethel and James Arthur Gay; sister Sue Gantt and brothers Clyde Gay and Edward Slaughter, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Curtis Brooks, daughters Theresa (Albert) Byrd and Ingrid Brooks; sister Jamesetta Ash; four granddaughters, Andrea Johnson, Monique Brooks, TuFanza (Jeffrey L.) Primos and Imari Brooks; one grandson Ilijah Brooks; six great grandchildren, Alyssa Byrd, Xavier Brooks, Oliver Byrd, Neema Primos, Zuri Primos and Johari Primos and one great great grandson, Josiah Allen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s name to The Clay County African American Legacy, Inc., 502 N. Water St., Liberty, MO 64068. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 21 at First Baptist Church, Liberty, MO with services to follow at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Liberty, Missouri.
