Mike was born on January 19, 1952, in Kansas City, the third child of Wayne and Lorene Blough. He grew up in Overland Park alongside his siblings, John and Gloria, and remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved.
Mike lived life on his own terms and found joy in the simple and meaningful things around him. A proud member of Operating Engineers Local 101, he dedicated his career to working as a heavy equipment operator and in demolition, earning the respect of coworkers and friends through his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft.
Outside of work, Mike had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and all living things. He loved fishing, watching birds, caring for animals, and spending time in nature. Whether it was the excitement of fireworks lighting up the sky or the roar of a fast motorcycle engine, Mike found happiness in the things that brought both adventure and peace. Cars and motorcycles were among his greatest passions, reflecting his love for movement, freedom, and the thrill of the open road.
After retirement, Mike especially cherished traveling in his RV, setting out on road trips to explore new places and enjoy the journey as much as the destination. Those travels reflected his independent spirit, curiosity, and appreciation for life’s quieter moments.
Mike chose a life that was uniquely his own. He never married or had children, and he often proudly joked about enjoying the independence and freedom that came with that decision. He lived fully and authentically, always staying true to what made him happiest.
He is survived by his sister Gloria and brother-in-law Pat; his nieces Shelly, Melanie, Summer, and Autumn; his great-nephews Dayzian, Jonah, Hayden, and Miles; his great-niece Sierra; and several lifelong friends — you know who you are.
Mike will be remembered for his individuality, his sense of humor, his love of nature, and the quiet but steady way he moved through life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
