Nadine Rosalea Webb, 87, of Kansas City, MO, passed quietly in her lovely home, under the care of her loving daughter. Nadine was born August 26, 1933, in southern Missouri (Winona) to Addie & Homer Neal. Before Nadine was two, Addie died & Homer disappeared soon after her death. Nadine was fostered by a great lady, Florida Barnes. For many years it was only Florida & Nadine making their way; later Florida married George Sellars. Always thinking there was a better life somewhere, in July 1952, Nadine came to Kansas City. She caught a ride on a flat-bed truck, under the hot sun, atop an old suitcase containing most of her belongings. She went to work at National Bellas Hess in North Kansas City & never looked back. Kansas City provided a "rags to riches" life for her.
Soon after arriving in Kansas City, she reunited with a hometown boy, Dorris Webb. They married and had two wonderful children; a son, Randall (Randy, 1953), and a daughter, Stacey (1958). However, the marriage was tumultuous and they separated in 1967. Nadine then became a bartender at the Gold Buffet's private Pirate's Club. After 23 years, she opened her own restaurant & bar. "Nadine's" served southern, comfort food and Country & Western bands. After ten successful years, she began the career she had always wanted, selling houses. She earned a perfect score on her first real estate test. She was at ReMax 19 years before retiring to totally dedicate herself to her first love, home-making & flower gardening. Her garden was on tour multiple times and her home & garden were included in an edition of the Kansas City magazine.
Nadine had little education and although she believed "it's not education, it's motivation that makes money" she wanted higher education for her children, in which both of them excelled. Her son described her as the hardest working person in America and her daughter described her as the most responsible person. She was also courageous, fun and a fabulous home-maker. She suffered tremendous grief over the deaths of her husband (1968) & son (2000); however, she was able to forge ahead in an enjoyable life with her daughter & many friends. She quipped that on her headstone she wanted "I told you I was sick." It will say: Workhorse & Show Pony; Entrepreneur & Home-maker; Beautiful & Smart!
She is survived by her daughter, Stacey Webb, who will miss her terribly. She was buried in White Chapel Cemetery, Gladstone, MO. Nadine's Life Celebration will be held at 3:00pm, Friday, August 27th at ReMax, 3200 NE 83rd, Kansas City, MO (off HW 152 & Indiana).
