Shirley Josephine Filbert

Shirley Josephine Filbert, age 88, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on December 12, 2022. A short visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 309 South Stewart Road, Liberty, Missouri, on December 27 at 9:30 a.m., after which a funeral service will be held in her memory at 10 a.m.. Shirley will be buried with her family in High Prairie Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas on December 27, 2022 at 1 p.m.

Shirley Filbert was born on September 22, 1934 to Joseph Franklin and Idella (Ogle) Filbert in Atchison, Kansas, graduating from Atchison High School in 1952 and attended Nursing School directly after. Shirley worked for over 30 years as a registered nurse at KU Medical Center in their Obstetric Department. After retiring from KU Medical Center, Shirley spent a few years driving a school bus for special needs kids for the Bashor-Linwood School District in Bashor, Kansas. When health concerns forced her to discontinue, she spent her remaining time crocheting blankets to donate to local hospitals for their newborns. Shirley also was a licensed pilot, collected coins, and was an avid Chiefs fan.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Idella; her sisters, Mary Dell Foster and Wilma Jean Filbert; and her brother, Joseph Harry Filbert.

Shirley's memory survives with her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.

Shirley's family has asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in lieu of flowers. You can do so by going to the StJude.org/donate or by mailing your donation to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
