

Thomas “Tom” Lynn Nelson, 75 of Liberty, Missouri died April 14, 2023. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday April 21 at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 am, Saturday April 22 at Liberty Christian Church, 427 E Kansas St, Liberty, MO 64068. Burial will follow in Glenridge Cemetery, B Highway, Liberty. Tom was born March 24, 1948 in Ames, Iowa to Kenneth Eugene Nelson and Marjorie Victoria Nash Nelson. He was a 1966 graduate of Nevada (Iowa) High School and a 1971 graduate of University of Northern Iowa, where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. During college, Tom worked at the Iowa Paint Store in Waterloo. Upon graduation, he transferred to the corporate office of Iowa Paint Manufacturing, Co. in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked there until November 1987. While working at Iowa Paint Tom met Jo (Althea) Myers. They were married on April 15, 1978 and were a day shy of celebrating 45 years. A few years later they welcomed daughter, Sarah. Tom, Jo and Sarah moved to Kansas City, and eventually moved to Liberty, MO in July 1989. Tom retired in 2010 from Rexam (formerly Precise Technology) when he was diagnosed with memory problems that later turned into Alzheimer’s.
Tom was a dedicated member of Liberty Christian Church, where he was a former deacon, member of the property committee, of which he chaired for many years, and served as the Church treasurer. He volunteered for Johnny’s Café and set up tables & chairs for many church functions. Tom also helped with the Church’s food pantry and volunteered for ReBuild KC. Tom was a member of the MANNA Sunday School Class for over 30 years. Every Monday for more than 10 years, Tom volunteered at Micah Ministries. He was a dedicated blood donor, having donated more than 10 gallons. Tom loved to attend Liberty High School sporting events and was a Chief’s season ticket holder for many years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brother, Bernard Nelson, and granddaughter, Emma Jo Craig.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Nelson; daughter, Sarah Craig and her husband Ryan; beloved grandson, Will Craig; brother, Jim Nelson and his wife Mimi; sister-in-law, Bev Webb and her husband, Bill; brother-in-law, Jim Myers and his wife Lee Ann; nephews, Matt Myers, Tom Myers, Mark Webb, Michael Webb, and Andy Lott; nieces, Christy Lott, Rebecca Lott, Alexis Nelson and Whitney Cornell; as well as sixteen great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
