Mrs. Betty C. Bowman, 91, a cherished wife, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing marks the end of a life beautifully lived, filled with kindness, service, and faith.
Mrs. Bowman was born January 31, 1933 in Greensboro to the late William Henry and Ida Richardson Covington. In 1951, she graduated as valedictorian of Alamance High School. She continued her pursuit of knowledge at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Secretarial Administration in 1955. Fueled by a passion for education, Betty began her teaching career, working at Rankin High School, Liberty High School and Southeast Guilford High School over the years. She dedicated her life to education, inspiring generations of students during her 30 plus year career as a teacher. Her passion for learning, gentle patience, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child left a lasting legacy in her community.
Mrs. Bowman is preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Bowman, and most recently her sister, Eugenia "Jean" Causey. She is survived by her sister, Debbie Schmidt; nephews, Bruce "Monty" Causey and Joshua Schmidt (Jennifer); niece, Ashley Schmidt; great-nephews and great-nieces, Jackson Schmidt, Julianna Schmidt, Dutton Schmidt, Savannah Schmidt, Christina Laney (Neil), Greg Causey (Lindsey), Nolan and Levi Causey.
Mrs. Bowman was known for her radiant smile, her quiet strength, and the way she made everyone feel valued and loved. This is likely what made her beloved husband, R.D. Bowman, ask for her hand in marriage. R.D. and Betty were married in 1955, and spent more than half their life together. Their love was a quiet, enduring presence that guided their days. Throughout every joy and challenge, they stood by each other, building a life filled with warmth, laughter, and shared dreams. When R.D. passed, Betty carried his memory in her heart, cherishing the bond they created. Now, with Betty's passing, they are reunited. Their story is a testament to the power of devotion, leaving behind a legacy of love that will be remembered by all who knew them.
Throughout her life, Betty was devoted to giving back. She generously donated her time, talents, and resources to countless causes, volunteering with her local church, mentoring youth, and supporting those in need. She was an active member of Julian United Methodist Church, where her faith shone through in her warm spirit and compassionate heart. Her church family will deeply miss her steady presence and the love she poured into every gathering.
The family would like to say a special and heartfelt thank you to George "Davy" and Heather Cockman. Their family has provided unwavering support and assistance to Mrs. Bowman these past several years. We will forever be grateful.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Julian United Methodist Church, 2105 NC Hwy 62 E., Julian, NC. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation following the service at Julian United Methodist Church.
