Chuck was a proud member of the United States Army. He served from 1960 to 1963 and during that time earned a Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter ranks for both the rifle and Carbine 22. After leaving the military, Chuck attended the University of Delaware where he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He remained a proud alumnus, returning for homecoming festivities for many years.
He worked for several different companies after graduating. One of his favorite assignments was when he was working for Allis-Chalmers, which gave him the opportunity to work and live in Algeria for 9 months.
Chuck finished his engineering career in the Greensboro area, spending several years as a Project Manager for NC A&T University. One of his proudest accomplishments was managing the construction of the state-of-the-art building that now houses the Joint School for Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.
He was a member of the Pleasant Union Church and was a man of unshakable faith. This faith carried him through numerous battles with cancer.
He was a teacher at heart, mentoring young engineers at work and acting as a Sunday school teacher and bible group leader at church. He was known for his giving heart and unwavering kindness and never met a stranger.
He was the son of the late George Frederick and Charlotte Walsh Dixon; and was also preceded in death by his sister, Charlene Marie Krause.
Surviving is his wife, Juanita Boggs Bowman; daughter, Samantha Dixon and her husband, Corben Decker; son, Nathan Dixon and his wife, Julie Dixon; step-daughters, Melissa Bowman and Sara Scheck; three grandchildren, Emma Decker and Anna and Zachary Dixon; step-granddaughter, Sophie Scheck; and sister, Nancy Dixon.
