A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Moore, Rev. Dan Bare and Rev. Wayne Dunn officiating; burial will follow in the church cemetery. A reception of friends will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Vera Hicks and was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charlie James Bare, Sr.; special son, Charlie James “Jay” Bare, Jr. and brother, Garland Hicks.
Helen is survived by her best friend and sister, Norma Hicks Staley; her daughter, Jamie Bare Poe and her husband, Joel; son, Marty Bare and his wife, Lori, and her four grandchildren, Kristen Poe Bettis and her husband, Daniel, Kaitlen Poe, Ricky Bare and Landon Bare. She is also survived by many very close nieces, nephews, cousins, and friend, Jim Parker.
She was a graduate of Staley High School, retired from Brady Trane and was an active lifetime member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. “Grammie” was a fireball. She was a fiercely loyal and loving, mother, Grammie, sister, and friend who could light up any room with her laugh, and was the life of any gathering. Even at 82, she had more energy than any of her children and grandchildren, and she could out-shop the best of them. She will be dearly missed, but one day, we will see her again.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Playground Fund, 7003 Sandy Creek Church Road, Staley, NC 27355, or to the Triangle Down Syndrome Network at triangledownsyndrome.org
