

He grew up in Liberty where he attended Liberty High School and was drafted at the age of 18 to serve overseas in WWII in the European Theater, while there he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. When he returned home he worked for Liberty Hosiery for 35 years, then Lab Corp, where he retired. J. Rankin was a member of Liberty First United Methodist Church and belonged to the American Legion and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He loved his family, playing baseball and going fishing at 4 o’clock on Saturday morning at Sizemore’s Lake.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m. at The Loflin Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Eugene Dean and Rev. Sandra Ireson. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
J. Rankin was the son of the late George A. and Elsie Mae Staley Wright and was also preceded in death by one sister, Earnestine Millikan and one brother, Richard Wright.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Roxie Flinchum Wright; one son, Ronald Wright; one grandson, William Loyd Wright and one sister, Shirley Ann Coble.
