

Maxine Smith Mills, 92, of Liberty passed into her eternal life on Wednesday, November 12, 2014. She was born July 21, 1922, in the home of her parents, David Ernest and Willie Rankin Smith where she resided until January, 2014. At age 18 she married Roy T. Mills, who was a loving and devoted husband for 61 years.
Maxine retired from the Greensboro Rolane Division of Kayser Roth in 1984. She was a life-long and dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kimesville where she served in many capacities. She organized the first children’s choir and was instrumental in the organization of the Women’s Burgess Circle. She was a member of the adult choir, taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Chairperson of the Children’s Division, Lay Leader and Delegate to the WNC Conference. She served as President of the United Methodist Women of Mt. Pleasant and received special recognition three times through the Women’s Division of Global Ministries.
She was manager of the Guilford Farmers Market located at the old Janus Theater off Battleground, a member of Kimesville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, served as president of the Nathanael Greene School PTA and was a life member of the SE Guilford Civitan Club.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Lee Ellis and Rev. Chuck Ireson; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 14, 2014 at Loflin Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Kenneth Hoyt Mills; sons-in-law, George Fogleman and Webster Holder; sisters, Edith Stout and Cordie Myrtle Murchison and brother, Hoyt L. Smith.
She is survived by daughters, Charlotte Fogleman of Whitsett, Annie Kathryn Holder of Liberty; son, David Mills (Karen) and foster son, Allen Gentry both of Choctaw, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brent Fogleman, Kevin Fogleman (Wendy), Cammie Zaino (Mike), Chuck Holder and Casey Davis (Shireen); great-grandchildren, Webster Lee Beal, Matthew and Haven Holder, Natalie and Ethan Fogleman, Ethan and Dylinn Davis.
The family would like to thank, caregiver, Peggy Black, Dr. Steven A. South, the staff at Edgewood Place in Burlington and Hospice of Alamance for the excellent care and compassion given to our mother.
