

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 North O.Henry Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27405.
Phil was born on August 27, 1935 in Pleasant Garden, NC to parents, Joseph Milton Hockett and Ada Pulliam Hockett. He attended Pleasant Garden High School where he played football. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army twice. Phil worked many jobs over the years. His love of driving led him to drive for McLean Trucking, Frito-Lay, and Hodgin Oil Company. For 18 years, Phil worked for the Greensboro Fire Department, where he drove the ladder truck and also the first snorkel truck. After retiring from the Fire Department, he drove for Holiday Tours in Randleman. His favorite trips were to Knoxville, TN to the World's Fair, and Disney World.
Phil had a lifetime love of farm animals including horses, cows, and goats. He was owner of Hockett Livestock for years, where he primarily raised beef cows, specifically Brahman cows. In his free time, Phil worked as a NC Licensed Auctioneer. He was a Mason for 50 years and also a member of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bobbie Eatmon Hockett; sister, Annie Alice Bruton; and brother, Grady Hockett.
He is survived by his son, Lawrence Hockett, of Liberty, NC; daughter, Phyllis Hockett and husband, Kirk McEachern of Fernandina Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Dewey Hockett of Charlotte, NC, Emalee Hockett of Liberty, NC, and Sophie McEachern of Raleigh, NC; brother-in-law, Tommy Bruton of Winnabow, NC; and a nephew, several nieces and numerous cousins.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
