A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park, Julian, NC.
Richard served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked as an engineer in the telecommunications industry with Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. He attended Monnett Road Baptist Church in Julian and Church Street Baptist Church in Greensboro.
He was the son of the late Worth and Pearl Allred Kirkman and was also preceded in death by brothers, Worth Kirkman, Jr. and Colvin Kirkman and step-brothers, Bud Thomas, Howard Thomas, Homer Thomas, Dean Millikan and Jim Millikan.
Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise Bowman Kirkman; daughters, Shannon Bondurant, Moniticia Weisner and Cyress Hall and her husband, Lewis; son, Rodney Kirkman; granddaughters, Brandi Laroche and her husband, Jimmy and Meghan Hall; great-grandson, Jordan Laroche; sisters, Gaynell Yow and Louise Routh; and brother, Ronnie Kirkman.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to Trellis Supportive Care Hospice for the love and care shown to Richard and his family.
