Millie and her husband, Cornel moved their growing family from Ohio to Florida in 1959. They built their Deerfield Beach home together. It was where everything happened as their family grew up, went to school and had friends over. Millie was there to oversee it all, with fresh baked cookies on the counter.
She was a founding member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and school. Millie was an active member and officer of the St. Ambrose Ladies Guild. The fundraising fashion shows were the highlight of the year, along with the annual carnival held to support the school. Millie was an Eucharistic minister. She loved singing in the church choir and did so for many years.
In the 60's & 70's, Deerfield Beach Lions Club had it's own Pioneer Day Festival. It was three days of hard work, long hours, a lot of good times and Millie was in the thick of it! Ceramics became a passion, making special gifts for family and friends. One of her favorite activities was cooking and baking for her family and anyone else who came over to visit. She prepared and hosted an amazing Italian feast every Christmas Eve. Folks would call just to ask "Are you having your holiday traditional meal?"
How Millie could make the garden grow and look so beautiful! When you saw her in the yard, she always had pruning shears and was wearing her high heels. She became known for her touch with orchids and had an arbor filled with beautiful hanging plants. It could be bingo at the Legion Hall or the casino in Vegas, she did like to gamble. She and her sisters went out regularly. She was an avid fan of golf and Miami Dolphin football. Her father gave Millie the love of opera music. Songs would fill their home, along with piano playing.
Though she was petite, Millie was a live firecracker with a huge heart of gold. She gave us laughter with her dry sense of humor. With strength, both inner and spiritual, she would say things that later you realized had truth. With the beauty of an angel, Millie touched us with her love.
