We also ask everyone wear colors of the ocean as this is a Homecoming for Pastor Hersch.
In an interview given years ago, Pastor Hersch was asked what he would like to be most remembered for answered, “Pointing people to Christ”. Jesus said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” He did just that — he was a fisherman and a fisher of men for Jesus taking pleasure in both. Pastor Hersch was an extraordinary man of God: filled with the love of Christ, caring, kind-hearted, selfless, and available 24/7 to all. His ministry touched many lives and hearts pointing them to Christ and, in turn, many now have a personal relationship with Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He lived life by example — a life of thanks-giving and thanks-living loving Jesus every step of the way, giving his fullest to others glorifying God in all things, and not only being but doing what Jesus would have us do. He would often say, “We as Christians need to be more than human beings… we need to be human doings”. Pastor Hersch humbly let the Lord lead him and His church spreading His Word through teaching, preaching, outreach and evangelism. One was either lost in the world or Found in Christ — there is no in between. His mission in life was to point people to Christ and he would say, “Just one more for His church and His Kingdom”.
Pastor Hersch loved the Lord and his family with all his heart. He loved preaching and teaching the Word of God; his flock at Lost and Found; counseling, ministering and reaching out to others; fishing and being a fisher of men; and all aspects of his life and ministry. The greatest highlights of his ministry were preaching every Sunday morning; Bible Study and fellowship every Thursday night; Lost and Found’s Easter Sunrise Service which took place at the Hillsboro Inlet Park in Pompano Beach, FL for 21 years; and his daily devotional entitled TODAY - HIS Minute which was sent out to hundreds of people via email who then shared them with others. In all his years in ministry, Pastor Hersch rarely took a day off instead preferring to reach out and minister to hundreds of people over the years. In his last daily devotional, Pastor Hersch wrote about life often being described in the Bible as a race and that we needed to be spiritually healthy exercising our faith to run the race of life strong. He ended the devotional with: “So do yourself a favor and begin working out your faith today. If you do, you soon will become a spiritual athlete who runs the race of life strong… and you will finish well!!
Pastor Hersch and his ministry touched so many lives and hearts. He will be sorely missed and he will be remembered for “pointing people to Christ”.
Pastor Hersch Hodge finished well!
