Ronald William McDevitt

Ron was born on January 12, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Samuel and Helen McDevitt. He went to both Temple and Penn State Universities to obtain a degree in accounting. Ron was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard and the Army Reserve.  

Ron met his wife Susan Gunning in January 1970 when she went on a blind date with his brother.  When it did not work out for them Ron took his chance and gave her a call.  

Ron and Sue married in October 1972.  They went on to celebrate 50 married years together, both knowing how lucky they were to have found each other.  Over the years they had 4 children and 7 grandchildren.  

Ron was a charismatic person.  He was better known around as “Elvis” and everywhere that he went he would pop his collar and strike a pose.  He was the most generous person and could always put a smile on someone’s face just by walking through the door.  He always put God and his family first.     

Ron is preceded in death by his wife Sue (February 2023) and his daughter Summerly (May 2023).  

Ron is survived by his daughter Melanie and son-in-law Ernest Ricciardi, son Brandon McDevitt and wife Iovanna, daughter Ashley and son-in-law Stephen Weiss and son-in-law Luis Paiva.  Grandchildren Nicholas and Marissa Ricciardi, Isabella and Victoria McDevitt, Liam and Connor Weiss and Sebastian Paiva.  

Services to be held on December 16, 2023 at Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services in Lighthouse Point, FL.  All are welcome.    

In lieu of flowers the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to just do a good deed for someone in need because that is what he would have wanted.
