Suzanne was born in New Castle, PA, on Jan 30, 1938 to her parents Alberta Brenner Chesney and Glenn L. Chesney.
She graduated from Slippery Rock College, Slippery Rock, PA in 1959 and taught 10th grade English at New Castle High School until 1962.
She married her soulmate Dr. Peter T. B. Shaffer from McKeesport, PA on August 25, 1962 in New Castle, PA.
Living on the water became their way of life. Starting on Grand Island, NY, then on Lake Lanier in Cumming GA, and finally on the St. Lucie River in Port St. Lucie FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Tanya Onori of Auburn N.Y, 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and her son, Scott Shaffer, of Deerfield Beach, FL.
Suzanne was deeply loved by her family and friends, and she returned that love fully.
They know her biggest smiles came riding her Boston Whaler or kayaking looking for “Big Al”. She was active sharing her spiritual wisdom in the Stuart Christian Science Church.
Friends, please don’t be sad, be happy… because after 22 years, she is now reunited with “Rusty Hook” and they are continuing their eternal love journey.
One of her last quotes was “In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again”
Within days, a relative saw a “golden butterfly” by the ocean, and a friend saw one at her church.
Suzanne let us know her journey to heaven and her return to Pete is complete, and that she is safe.
To honor Suzanne’s wishes, the family has chosen to forego a traditional service. To celebrate Suzanne’s lifelong love of the outdoors and commitment to the environment, those wishing to remember her are encouraged to contribute to The Nature Conservancy.
