

Alfred “Papa” Dukes, Sr., 87 of Lima, passed away 7:48 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Baton Rouge Senior Living Center. He was born on July 7, 1928 in Temple, Georgia to Lonnie and Christine (McBeth) Dukes and they both preceded him in death. On April 9, 1949 he married Arlessa Johnson and she passed away December 28, 2006.
He is survived by his children, Alfred (Bobbie) Dukes, Jr. of Lima, Janice White of Lima, Rhonda Hamilton of Dayton, Denise Dukes of Columbus, Timothy (Stephanie) Dukes, Sr. of Lima; thirteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, his siblings, Edna Stone of Lima, Rosemary Dukes of Champaign, Illinois and Joyce (Nolan) Dukes-Brown of Columbus, a host of nieces and nephews and a special nephew Steve Robinson who stuck by him until the end.
Alfred retired from Ohio Coverall as the Washroom Manager, after his retirement he helped at Potts Electric. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He gave his heart and soul to the Lord in 1999.Alfred, Sr. was a graduate of Lima South High School in 1948. He was a member of the Teamsters Union . He was known as the neighborhood handyman. He loved and cherished his family.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by the following siblings, James Dukes, Lonnie Dukes, Jr., Stanley Dukes, Catherine Sanks and Irma Crowder.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt Olive Baptist Church 1406 St. John’s Ave. (the corner of St.Johns Ave. and Fourth Street), Lima, with Rev. Robert L. Curtis, officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Thursday, June 30th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.at SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME.
