
He was born February 14, 1922 in Calloway, Virginia to the late James Oscar and Luvina (Stump) Slone. In May, 1941, he married Mary Alice Ross, who passed away in March of 2009.
Andy had one daughter, Loretta (Robert) Baxter; three grandchildren, Sheri Clement, Tina (Greg) Stump, and Wendy (Brad) Baxter. Six great grandchildren, Brandon Clement, Tyler Baxter and Madison Baxter, Erin and Jessica Wick (twin girls) and Lauren Holden. Andy was preceded in death by his only grandson, Wilbur D. Wedge, II in 1994.
Andy is the sixth of eighteen children. His first job was working in the coal mines at age 17 in West Virginia. In 1959, he and his family moved to Lima, where he bought his first (new) home for $5000 and became employed by Tiny Rauch to work as a Teamster for Tuttle Construction. After working there for twenty eight years, he retired with the company in 1984.
He attended Lima Missionary Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and sang worship music. He loved to sing, “Amazing Grace” and “Long Black Train,” his two favorite songs. His favorite scripture was John 3:16. He also enjoyed his long time hobbies of gardening and collecting antiques, including guns and knives.
His pride and joy was his black cat named, Inky. He loved spending time with family and friends and share the gospel with anyone he met.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon, Friday, November 10, 2017 at Lima Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Terry Brock and Denny Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the church Friday one hour prior to the service at the Lima Missionary Baptist Church, 3085 Yoder Rd., Lima, Ohio.
