

Charles Richard Houtz, 94, of Logan, Ohio, formerly of Lima, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at his son’s residence in Logan, Ohio. He was born on March 19, 1923 in Lima to the late William and Myrtle (Dodge) Houtz . Charles was married to Clara M. (Rutledge) Houtz and she passed away February 2, 1999.
He is survived by his son, Charles R. (Cindy) Houtz, II of Logan, Ohio; daughter, Bonnie (Richard) Huffer of Lakeview, Ohio; sister, Margaret Shindeldecker; grandchildren, Krystal (Mark), Carey, Kasey, Paul and Max (Jennifer), great grandchildren, Vivienne, Josh, Kaitlyn, Charles Robert, Davey and Andriah; along with numerous relatives and countless friends. Along with his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters.
Charles proudly served his country in the 52nd Engineers U.S. Army during WWII. He maintained very close relationships with his other veteran friends through previous memberships of the VFW and Amvets in Lima, and American Legion Post 78 in Logan, Ohio.
Charles worked as a crane operator for the former Clark Equipment and retired after 40 years. He is revered and celebrated by his family as an amazing father, grandpa, brother and all-around great man. Charles was kind-hearted with a quick wit. His unique blend of orneriness, humor and likeability earned him many friends throughout his lifetime.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home. Family and friends may call 4-7 PM just prior to his service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to your local food bank.
