

Denzel Ross, 91 of Lima, passed away 4:55 p.m. Wednesday evening January 18, 2012 at Lima Memorial Health Systems. He was born on July 15, 1920 in Flat Gap, KY to Mitchell and Junie (Williams) Ross who preceded him in death. He was raised by his father and stepmother, Esta Ross. On May 13, 1961, he married Lorraine Brown Ferguson and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter: Brenda (James K.) Webb of Lima, a son-in-law, William Wolford of Lima a brother: Mitchel Darrel Ross of Waverly, Oh a sister: Loetta Legg of Waverly, six grandchildren: Gina Haller, Dana (Audrea) Webb, Lora Bortner, James (Trishia) Webb, Amy (Matt) Cunningham and Wendy Wolford, fifteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter: Joyce Wolford, three sisters: Dorothy Williams, Ilene Blaum, Willia Alice Fyffe and two brothers: Ray Ross and Lionel J. Evans.
Mr. Ross was an engineer for the Detroit Toledo and Ironton Railroad for 35 years, and he retired in 1980. He was a Corporal for the 49th Fighter Control Squadron fighting in New Guinea and the Southern Philippine Campaign during WWII. He was a member of the Anthony Lodge Free and Accepted Mason #0433, Springfield, Ohio. He was a member of the Lima Baptist Temple for over 40 years where he served as an usher. Denzel was a loving and caring husband and father and he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loyal friend to all who knew him, and was respected by all. He had a unique way of making his grandchildren feel special by giving them all a special nickname that they will cherish forever. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a faithful contributor to many worthy charities.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Hohman, officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum, where the VFW Post 1275 will conduct military graveside rites.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 20 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home and one hour prior the service on Saturday.
