R. David Merrill

Dave is survived by his wife Carol (Crawford) Merrill, daughters Beth (Bill) Jernigan of Florida, Kim (Scott) Malof of Kentucky, son Steve (Erica) Merrill of Texas. Grandchildren: Cory Wilkin, Erik Wilkin, Brooke Wilkin, Katie (Christian) Cochran, Jared Jernigan, Hannah Jernigan, Nicole Merrill, Madison Merrill; half-sister Cindy (Jim) Eaton; Nieces & Nephews

Dave is preceded in death by parents Ralph & Helen (Wade) Merrill, sister Judy (Merrill) Kinnard and a beloved son-in-law, Rodd T. Wilkin who passed away in 2000.

Dave was born on December 16, 1933 in Lima, Ohio to Ralph and Helen Merrill. He graduated from Lima Central High School in 1952. He also attended Bowling Green State University as well as Ohio State University. Dave began working for Ford Lima Engine Plant from the opening of the plant in 1957 until he retired in 1989 as a Human Resources Personnel Supervisor.

In 1961, Dave married Carol Crawford. During the next 5 years of their marriage, they welcomed 3 children into their home. Carol and children remember him as a loving, kind-hearted, compassionate husband and father.

Dave was an avid walker and enjoyed reading World War II history. He was a generous person who loved animals especially ‘Rocky & Sam’ his two dogs. Dave was a long time member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Visitation rights are scheduled for 11:30am Tuesday February 17 at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home followed by a ‘Celebration of Life’ service 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dave’s life.
