

Technical Sergeant Erica Rene Morris, a woman of profound self-reliance and courage, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, after a difficult and courageous battle with cancer. At the age of 54, she leaves behind a legacy of over 22 years of dedicated service in both military and civilian roles.
Born Erica Rene Dumas on August 5, 1971, in Columbus, Ohio, her family moved to California shortly thereafter, graduating from Oakmont High School in Roseville in June 1989. She continued her education by earning an Associate in General Studies from Everett Community College in June 2006, an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force in January 2015, and a Bachelor's Degree in General Studies from Columbia College of Missouri in March 2018. Throughout her life, Erica was deeply proud of her self-reliance, proficiently handling tasks from cooking and maintaining her beloved Jeep to managing her own house and property maintenance. She also found peace enjoying the tranquility of the forest and enjoyed researching genealogy and DNA.
A Lifetime Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Erica's distinguished military career spanned the U.S. Army, the U.S. Naval Reserves, and the U.S. Air Force Reserve / CA Air National Guard.
She began her active duty service with the U.S. Army in January 1992, serving as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic at Fort Carson, Colorado. She served as a combat veteran in Mogadishu, Somalia (May–September 1993) before her honorable release in July 1994.
Following her active service, she continued to serve in the reserve components of the U.S. Naval Reserves and the U.S. Air National Guard. She distinguished herself by specializing in several demanding technical fields, including RF Transmission Systems Craftsman, Cyber Transport Systems Craftsman, and Knowledge Operations Management Craftsman. She retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve / CA Air National Guard in November 2017 at the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt), concluding her military service.
Among her numerous decorations are the: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, California Commendation Medal, California Good Conduct Medal, California State Service Ribbon, and the United Nations Medal - Somalia.
After retiring from the military, Erica continued her career in public service, leveraging her administrative and logistical expertise in civilian government roles. Her civilian service included roles as an Office Technician with the State of California-Cal Trans and as an Information Resources Specialist with the California Air National Guard. She then served with Air Combat Command at Beale AFB, progressing from Materials Handler (September 2018 – August 2019) to Unit Program Coordinator/Security Manager (August 2019 – March 2021), and finally as a Telecommunications Specialist / IT and Computer Assistant until October 2025.
Erica is survived by her father, Robert Ernest Dumas, mother, Suzanne Lea Dumas, brother, Zachary Dumas, and her two beloved feline companions, Sergio and Julio. She leaves behind a legacy defined by unwavering self-reliance, immense courage, and deep loyalty to her country.
A graveside service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Thursday, November 6th at 1:00 PM (1300).
