
James leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Sheila (nee Elliott), and his two children, Ann (Nunn) and Keith. James cherished his role as a father-in-law to Todd Nunn and Meredith Beswick (nee Schindler) and took great pride in his cherished grandchildren; Brooke Claire, Dylan Paul, and Christopher James Nunn and Max James Beswick. James was predeceased by his brother Robert (Bruce) with whom he enjoyed yearly hikes through a number of national parks.
James dedicated his life to serving his country and his community. After serving 4 years in the United States Air Force where he served as an aircraft crew chief on C-130 Transport planes and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was appointed by California Governor Grey Davis to work for the California State Prison Industry Authority (PIA), where he served 25 years, leading the rehabilitation of prisoners. After his retirement from PIA, James continued his service to his community as a Police Volunteer to the Lincoln Police Department for 12 years.
James devoted much of his time, talent, and leadership to the American Legion Post 264, four times serving as post Commander as well as twice serving as district Financial Officer. James was a role model to many, not only through his love and dedication to his family but also through his military service and his support to local law enforcement. He instilled the values of honor, discipline, and compassion in those who had the privilege of knowing him. His leadership and commitment were truly remarkable, earning him the respect and admiration of his family, friends, and the Lincoln community.
James's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy of service and dedication to his country and community will forever be remembered with gratitude and respect.
A celebration of James's life will be held at the American Legion Post 264 on December 3, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Puppy’s Behind Bars (PBB) in James Beswick's honor.
