Manuel R. Avila, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on September 29, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Manuel was born in Juarez, Mexico on March 18, 1927 and grew up in Lincoln, California. In 1947 he started his career working for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a Sheet Metal Worker and later retired after 40 years. In 1948 he married the love of his life, Jessie Ramos and together had two children. At age 10 he discovered his love for the guitar and performed in many functions throughout his life. He loved to golf with his friends and was a member of the Par-Plus and the Family Circle. He was very active in youth sports and Lincoln Little League. He served as the President for many years and established the Senior League Division. He loved baseball and was a Die Hard New York Yankees Fan. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Festival of Life Ministries. He had the hugest heart, biggest smile, most cheerful laugh and was the most respectful, inviting, loving man. He loved his family and friends dearly and always loved their company. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Jessie R. Avila; his daughter Linda and her husband Joe Anglada; his son Roberto Avila; 3 grandchildren, Joseph Anglada, Rhianon Zinzun and Monica Anglada; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers Tony and Lupe Avila, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Maria, his brothers; Gregorio, John and Rutilio Avila; and his sisters, Jennie Morales and Josie Pasillas. He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He will forever have a place in our hearts!
