Bud is preceded in death by his mother and father, Bob and Stella Hensley, his sister Rwena Lester, and his beloved cutting horse Willie In Command. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Brenda Hensley, daughter Theresa McCaffrey, son-in-law Kerry McCaffrey, daughter Terri Friebel, son-in-law Paul Friebel, niece Joy Salazar, grandchildren Kyle and Erika McCaffrey, Madison and Joe Angelo, Marcos and Lindsey Salazar, great grandchildren Killian and Rowan McCaffrey. He is also survived by his sister Waunda Damron of Winton, California, brother Ed Hensley of Oklahoma and nephew Elbern Gentry and family.
He grew up in the Tulare County area of California where he had many friends and relatives. Bud served in the U.S. Navy as a gun-striker on board the USS Manchester-CL83 during the Korean Conflict and was ever after a patriotic American. He worked as a carpenter and became a contractor building new homes in the Bay Area of California. He was also a cowboy, the real kind, he steer wrestled, rode bulls, and later along with Willie, became a winning cutter at Quarter Horse events. He retired and moved to Lincoln, California in 1989. It was not a true retirement, since he had a 40 acre ranch and an impressive herd of beef cattle. Perhaps the thing he loved most during these years was his entourage; Kyle, Madison and Marcos. Neighboring ranchers started to call The Flying H Ranch the Hensley Nursery. In 2018 Papa & Grandma became great grandparents to the twins Killian and Rowan. His great pleasure has been watching these two little dynamos.
He so loved "Brenny" and the rest of his family. He was such a big part of our lives, the go-to guy, he knew so much and looked out for all of us. He will remain in our hearts forever. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, March 4 at 11:00 am at Manzanita Cemetery in Lincoln, Ca.
