
Barbara Jean Cox (née Mathes), aged 74, passed away on July 8, 2024, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born on October 2, 1949, in Denver, Colorado, she spent her life nurturing those around her with a gentle and caring spirit.
Barbara's career was marked by her dedication and warmth in various roles, reflecting her nurturing nature. She served as a department manager at Spartans in Denver, CO, and as a head waitress at Village Inn in Arvada, CO. Later, she contributed her talents as a school cafeteria worker in Paul’s Valley, OK, and as an associate at Target in Lincoln, NE.
A lover of animals and Western movies, Barbara was also deeply committed to her family. She helped raise her three sisters and cared for her mother for over ten years. Her life was a testament to the virtues she cherished and taught to those around her.
Barbara was a devout follower of Jesus, often found copying and reading Bible verses into her journals, a practice that enriched her faith and comforted her in times of need.
She is survived by her sons, Jack Garramone and Edward Cox; her grandchildren, Keath Garramone, Kris Garramone and Lynzi Garramone; six great grandchildren; and her sisters, Marlene Mathes and Debbie Ehlers. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Cox, Sr.; her father, Harry Mathes; her mother, Alice Flanagan; and her sister, Maroldine (Dino) Williams.
Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska is overseeing the arrangements. Barbara's life will be remembered for her quiet strength, caring heart, and the profound impact she had on her family and community.
