Betty was born November 14, 1935, in Lebanon, Missouri to Hazel and Richard Luthy. Hazel and Richard were divorced. Hazel later married Adolph Nitzel who adopted Betty and her younger brother Kenny Luthy. Betty graduated from Upland high school in 1953.
Betty married Robert Place in 1954. They were blessed with four daughters: Teresa, Diana, Cynthia and Brenda. Betty and Robert were later divorced.
During the early 1980s Betty moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. Betty worked for the Lincoln City Police Department’s Public Records Division for 20 years.
Betty was an active member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
Betty was an extremely loyal and devoted Nebraska Cornhusker Football Fan! In the early 1970’s her daughters would go to the park across the street; but they could still hear Betty shouting at Coach Bob DeVaney.
Betty was feisty to the end.
Survivors include her sister Melba Tebbe, Betty’s Children and their families.
She was preceded in death by her brother Kenny Nitzel and infant grandson Nara Sritan.
