

Betty A. Turner, went to Heaven on Tuesday, June 17th, 2014 to join the love of her life, husband of 64 years, Gene G. She was surrounded by her children when the angels came. She was 85 years 4 months and 13 days young. Betty was born February 4, 1929 in Corning, Kansas to Lloyd W. and Stella E. (Ruse) Jones.
Betty had two Brothers Lee and Wayne, two sisters Jean and Elaine, half- sister Marcia Kay, step sister Joy. Betty was born and raised in the Corning and Sabetha, Kansas areas.
At 17 years of age, she went to Emporia State College and began teaching school. A few years later she taught school in Burn, Kansas and met and married her soul mate Gene Turner on August 20, 1948. They married in Hiawatha, Kansas. Betty continued to teach school in Kansas City. After their move to Lincoln, Nebraska she and Gene were blessed with five children.
Betty was owner/operator of her pre-school for 30 years all while raising five children, being an excellent wife, working with the Lancaster County Election Board (for 40 years) and still found time to be President of her Parent Teacher Association for many years. Betty was very involved in her church and community.
Betty devoted her entire life to first and foremost her husband, Gene; her five children, family and friends. As her life bloomed, her grand children were so very important and the love she gave was immeasurable. Betty and Gene were always hosting family dinners and helping those who needed somewhere to live, eat or needed guidance in direction. She always devoted many tireless hours to helping others. Flowers, plants, kids and God made her heart full and happy. Her time at their cabin outside of York, with Gene fulfilled her life. Lots of laughter, food, sunshine and family!
Betty is survived by Sons Greg Turner (Linda McCollum) of Omaha, Tim Turner (Linda) of Austin, Texas; Daughters, Debra Johnson (Mike) of Martell, Kathy Turner-Oneth (Don Johnson) of Lincoln; Janice Schneider (Loren) of Lincoln. Betty had 11 Grand Children, 18 Great Grand Children; Sons-in-laws Don Freeman and Paul Oneth; Daughter in law Karen Mason. Sisters Jean Burns and Elaine Oberg; Sisters in law Alta Marie Roush, Winifred Turner and Donna Johnston; Brother Wesley Wayne Jones (Joyce).
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; Husband Gene; Step Mother Harriet Jones; Brother Lee Jones, Brothers in laws Robert (Bob) Burns, Chris Hittle, Lanny Oberg, Leonard Turner and Bob Turner; Sister in law Barbara Jones, half sister Marcia Kay Mellies, step sister Joy Sykes; Step brothers, Gale and Bill Hilbert.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be Friday, June 20th, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 So 14th Street, Lincoln. Spiritual Care Chaplin Jim Cummings from HoriSun Hospice will officiate. Cremation. No visitation. Inurnment for Betty and Gene following the celebration of life.
