

Charles Ervin Doehling, age 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023. The son of Emil and Maria (Rathjen) Doehling, Charles was born on July 20, 1939 on the family farm near Ulysses, Nebraska. Charles was baptized August 1939 and confirmed December 1952 in the Lutheran faith. He was raised on a farm near Fullerton, Nebraska and graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1957. After graduation, Charles moved to Lincoln, Nebraska.
Charles served in the U.S. Army overseas stationed at Bad Kissingen, Germany for 2 1/2 years, reaching the rank of Specialist 5th class. After his service in the Army, he returned to Lincoln and worked for Canteen Vending Company for 32 years then for Swanson Vending until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post No.3 of Lincoln
Charles met the love of his life Kay M. Ganzel. They were married on December 6, 1964. They made their home in Lincoln where they raised their son Roger.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Kay Doehling, his son Roger (Tori) Doehling of Omaha, Nebraska, his grandchildren Ross, Reid, Kalynn, and Kyra of Omaha, Nebraska, his sister Elda Riese of Grand Island, Nebraska, and sister-in-law Donna Doehling of Grand Island, Nebraska, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
A memorial celebration of life for Charles will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 5, 2024 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 7979 Holdrege Street, Lincoln, NE.
