Charles Fredrick Lindemann was born on December 30th, 1942, to Carl and Esther (Harms) Lindemann on their family farm near Deshler, Nebraska. He passed away on May 24th, 2024, in his beloved Subaru, with his loving wife of almost 55 years by his side. Charles was 81 years old at the time of his passing.
Charles was baptized on January 24th, 1943, and was confirmed May 20th, 1956 at Peace Lutheran Church of Deshler. His confirmation verse was John 16:23 “Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it to you."
Charles attended country school and finished grade school at Peace Lutheran before graduating from Deshler High school in 1960. He went on to help his dad with farming along with working for his neighbor and the Spring Creek Dairy before joining the Navy on July 26, 1964. Charles was stationed in Treasure Island San Francisco and proudly served on the U.S.S. Enterprise from 1965 to 1967 before being honorably discharged. He enjoyed sharing stories from this time in his life. After arriving home from service, Charles met the love of his life Myra, on a blind date on May 14, 1967. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1969 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, Nebraska. Shortly after the couple moved to Lincoln, their union was blessed with two adopted children, Mark and Melissa.
Charles graduated with a business degree from Lincoln School of Commerce and worked at American Stores Packing Company until its closure. He worked a number of jobs before getting hired on at Goodyear, where he worked until he retired in 2006. Charles and Myra lived in their home in Lincoln together for over 50 years. He took great pride in their home and enjoyed home improvement projects and taking care of the yard. Charles was very handy and loved woodworking, building many treasures enjoyed still by the kids and grandchildren. He also enjoyed bicycling, Myra’s cooking, and helping her with the preparations. He enjoyed Royals Baseball, the Huskers, and traveling. When the couple retired, they took a two month trip to Alaska in their camper and later became “Winter Texans” in Harlingen, Texas for many years where they made many great friends and memories. He always had a story to tell and would visit with anyone he met with a smile on his face.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Esther; and brother in-law, Gene Windhorst. He is survived by his wife Myra; two children, Mark Lindemann and wife Kristie, and Melissa Illian and husband Nick, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kurtis Carpenter, Jakob Lindemann, Myla Lindemann (Dawson Stewart), and Kai Illian; sister in-law Pam Windhorst; and many other relatives and friends.
