Christine married Richard Irvin on April 26 1975 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. In the following years, Christine and Richard loved raising their 2 children in the Irvingdale neighborhood. Christine was also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir for years. As a paraprofessional, Christine proudly worked at Prescott Elementary for 35 years.
Known and loved by many, Christine would often light up a room with her distinct laughter and great sense of humor. No matter the size of the problem, you could always count on Christine to give the best advice. Christine cherished the time spent with her sister, Renee. The sisters rarely missed a day talking on the phone.
Christine’s greatest joy in life was being a grandmother. Each grandchild had a special place in her heart. Much of Christine’s energy was spent loving Riley, Frances, and Augie to the fullest. Friends and family were always a large part in Christine’s life; she was very grateful for the love and support given to her.
Essentials in Christine’s life included her phone, calendar, pen, and notebook. Her phone kept her connected to friends and family. The notebook is what she used to never forget a detail; she took very good notes with her great penmanship. Her calendar kept her life in order for the countless social gatherings, doctor appointments, birthdays, and other important dates. Because she connected often and never missed a detail, Christine was seen as the ‘glue’ that held all of her various groups together.
Christine graduated from Lincoln Southeast in 1974 and NEVER missed a class reunion - she was not one to miss a good party. Christine was proud to be a Knight and has stayed in contact with many of her classmates for 50 years.
Hosting Thanksgiving every year was one way Christine maintained an important family tradition. Thanksgiving was a special holiday to her as it was Richard’s favorite holiday. No matter how many attended, there was plenty of great food for all and a game of ‘Scattergories’ before dessert.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, parents Hilderbert and Inge Schlichting. Christine is survived by her son Dan Irvin, her daughter Rachel Hoien (Dan), her sister Renee Schlichting (Chuck), and grandchildren Riley Irvin, Frances and Augie Hoien, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Roca Berry Farms, Wednesday, May 8 starting at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society and Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools.
