

Dean L. Petersen, 89, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. He was born in York, NE to Dean H. and Marion Petersen. Retired Captain of the U.S. Navy. CEO of Nebraska Bulk Transport Inc. and Fitch Trucking Inc. Active member of numerous organizations, including: Lincoln Sowers Club; Sowers Club Foundation; Lincoln Rotary 14; Lower Platte South NRD Board; Boys Scouts of America; Scout Leader for Troop #38, Board of Trustees for Doane College; Member of the Shrine; Nebraska Trucking Association; Masonic Lodge; Elks Lodge; Royal Order of Jesters; VFW; American Legion; Big Red Sub Club; Quiet Birdman; Foundation for Knowledge District OR1, and many, many more. Dean was a skilled pilot and fearless traveler, both nationally and internationally. He even piloted a plane between Jerusalem, Israel and Amman, Jordan on the historical “Peace Flight.” He enjoyed fishing from Costa Rica to the Arctic Circle. His only complaints were when he couldn’t pilot the plane to get to a location. Dean was a past president of the Cornhusker Boy Scout Council and was a Scout leader for Troop #38. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his exceptional character and distinguished service. Dean was elected and served 3 four year terms on the Board of the Lower Platte South NRD. Avid sports fan that enjoyed flying, boating, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. Survivors: Wife, Darlene. Daughters: Shirley (Greg) Wall; Judi Olivetti and Jim Starita; and Melanie (Warren) Cheney. Sons: Mark (Mary) Petersen and Eric (Jenni) Petersen. 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.
