Donald “Shorty” Rice, 84, retired mechanical engineer of Lincoln passed away January 29, 2020. He was born May 20, 1935 in Hastings, NE to Warren and Burdetta (Simmons) Rice. He was a high school running back, enjoyed boating especially being the captain, an avid Husker fan. He enjoyed restoring automobiles with his sons. He was a member of the Southwood Lutheran Church. He was a Design Engineer at Fisher Controls for 30 years and served as a Pilot and Captain in the United States Air Force.
Donald is survived by his wife Marilyn of Lincoln, sons Mark (Kathleen) Rice of Plano, TX, Paul (Karol) Rice of Plano, TX, Andrew Rice of Lincoln, NE, Timothy Rice of Wylie, TX, and Bryan (Michelle) Walker of Berkley, CA; grandchildren Elissa Villarreal, Sarah Wiseman, Jason Rice, Jennifer Kimble, Andrea Rice, Dolan Rice, Andrew Fields, Benjamin Fields; 13 Great Grandchildren; brother Richard (Glenna) Rice of Hastings, NE; sister Dorothy (Ronald) Brandt of Alexandria, VA.; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister JoAnn Shaver; daughters-in-law Kimberly Rice and Tamiko Rice; and grandson Warren Rice.
Family will receive friends Sunday, February 2, from 2 – 4pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln. Funeral services will be Monday, February 3 at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home at 11:00 am.
