Dorene Faye (Duba) Schneider, 89, entered into eternal rest on June 5, 2019, one day after celebrating her 64th wedding anniversary. She was the beloved wife of Edward L. (“Augie”) Schneider and a loving mother.
Dorene was born on a farm near Dorchester, Nebraska to James and Bertha (Bors) Duba. She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1947, and attended Doane College. Dorene and Augie were married on June 4, 1955, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She worked for State Farm Insurance Company as an Underwriter, and retired from State Farm after 31 years.
Following retirement, Dorene continued to express her love for children by becoming a volunteer at Meadow Lane Elementary School in Lincoln, and was named the school’s outstanding volunteer in April, 1998. She was a long time member of the ZCBJ Lodge in Dorchester, and the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lincoln.
She loved her family, and enjoyed spectator sports, ranging from the Cornhuskers to the Cubs. She loved watching a good Western, and proudly displayed her Czech heritage by making homemade potato dumplings each Thanksgiving. Her humility always shined through, as she would say, “they didn’t turn out as well as my mom’s,” though they were always perfect. She was kind, hospitable, and generous.
Dorene was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Irene. She is survived by husband Edward, daughter Debra Wilkinson (Thomas), son Robert Schneider (Elizabeth), granddaughter Katherine Elizabeth Schneider, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful and caring people at the Bryan Health East Campus Women’s and Children’s Unit, Legacy Estates and Legacy Home Care, HoriSun Hospice, and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Congregational Care. We will always appreciate and remember your grace and compassion, and how you worked tirelessly to provide loving care and comfort.
A family visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 at the Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Lincoln, Nebraska. A public graveside service will be held at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery (enter at Gate 2) at 10:30 a.m. on the same day, with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Boulevard, Lincoln, NE, 68520 or the Employee Appreciation Fund at the Legacy Estates, 7200 Van Dorn St., Lincoln, NE, 68506.
