

Doris B. Hawkins, 94 of Lincoln died peacefully at her home on November 15, 2014. Born in Bethany to Guy W. and Alice L. (Kiechel) Burdick on December 10, 1919. Doris was preceded in death in 1951 by her husband Leyman O. Hawkins and in 2011 by her son Charles G. Hawkins. A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Doris loved to sew, embroider and crochet. She created beautiful paintings and was an avid gardener. In earlier years, she was a long-time employee and the Nebraska National Guard, retiring in 1984. Doris is survived by her daughter Cheryl J. Larson and Husband James, her son Richard L. Hawkins and wife Jacquelyn and her daughter-in-law Debra Hawkins, widow of Charles. Doris was cherished by nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was immensely proud of each of them and counted them as her greatest joys. Additionally, Doris was predeceased by her 5 sisters and brothers, Geraldine Johnson, Lois Umberger, Jean Mueller, Edgar Burdick and Robert Burdick. There will be no visitation. Family graveside services will be conducted by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11am. Family should meet at the funeral home prior to the service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’ memory may be made, for children, to the Backpack Program of the Food Bank of Lincoln.
