

Former Lincoln resident Edgar H. Norman of Oro Valley, Az. passed away Tuesday Sept. 1st. Born Aug.28, 1921 in York, Ne. to John and Elizabeth Norman. Ed served 3 1/2 years as a hospital corpsman in the US Navy during World War 2 attached to the 21st Marine Regt. 3rd. Marine Division( the same division his son Bob served with as a Marine during Viet Nam). Ed saw action in the battles of Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Guam. He married Minnie Pickrel of Los Angeles Dec 20, 1941 and shipped out for overseas four hours later.Ed later worked for Western Newspaper and then followed J.Knox Jones( his father figure) over to Schwarz Paper Co. for 40 years. After both he and his son Bob were widowed moved to Az. to be closer to family.Ed and his family are avid husker fans, Ed held his season tickets for over 50 years missed very few home, away and bowl games. He& Minnie so enjoyed taking their grandsons along with them every chance they got. Ed is a life member of the US Navy Hospital Corpsman Assoc. The VFW and both Lincoln's and Oro Valley's American Legion. Ed's whole life first and foremost was centered around 'Ohanna (family in Hawaiian)-- Ed loved & practiced his Methodist faith keeping both his St. Paul Lincoln and St. Marks Oro Valley's families near and dear he did volunteer work 2 mornings a week at St. Marks up until a few weeks before his passing. Surviving Ed are his son Bob (Christi) of Oro Valley, Grandson Dr. Mat (Heather) of Galesburg, Il Grandson Chris (Jen) and Greatgrandchildren Mason and Marissa all of Oro Valley.A very special niece Shirley Atkinson of American Fork, Utah and all of his very special adopted grandchildren, Brooke, Codi,Nick, great grandchildren, jaylen, Leighein,Reece, & Sophia--all in Lincoln Ed was preceded in death by his wife Minnie, his son William and his daughter Jane as well as his parents,sister Opal & brother John. Family is having a visitation in the reception room down stairs in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home before the graveside service from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. Graveside Service will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park on Tuesday, September 8, at 10:00 am Family and friends will meet at gate 2.
