

Edward Allen Blum, age 74, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on September 3, 1951 in Lincoln to parents Edward and Esther Dietrich Blum. Edward graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1973 with a Bachelor of Music in Education. In 1978, he earned a Master of Education degree in Music from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Also in 1978, Edward was a distinguished graduate of AFROTC at NU and earned his commission in the United States Air Force. He entered extended active duty in the Air Force in 1978 and served at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico, Biloxi Air Force Base, Mississippi and Randolph Air Force, San Antonio, Texas. Edward received an honorable discharge for his years of military service and returned to make Lincoln his home.
Ed was a talented musician specializing in the trumpet throughout his life! From the University of Nebraska Marching Band, to numerous local touring rock bands, to founding the Encore Brass Quintet, to the Lincoln Community Concert Band – Ed Blum was an active, highly accomplished and contributing member of the Lincoln music scene.
Edward is survived by his brother Gary R. Blum and his wife Lyn Portsche Blum, niece Rachel Lyn Balli and her two daughters all living in San Antonio, Texas.
A memorial service for Edward A Blum will be held at a later date and an announcement will be made.
